Dave’s career spans more than 35 years in many facets of Canada’s vibrant Entertainment Industry.

Television

Dave is best known as a TV choreographer, credited with well over 100 live broadcasts. His work has aired on every major Canadian Network — Canadian Idol, (six seasons) Radio Free Roscoe, Deal or no Deal, Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader, A Johnny Reid Christmas, the 17th and 18th Gemini Awards, and three Canada’s Walk of Fame Specials with stars including Howie Mandel, Alice Cooper, Tom Cochrane, WWE’s Trish Stratus, and The Tenors. He also appeared in front of the camera for 4 seasons as a regular on YTV’s top rated The Next Star. In 2019 he was invited for the third time to choreograph Canada’s Juno Awards! On these broadcasts he worked with Sarah McLaughlin, Tegan and Sara, Classified, Serena Ryder, A Tribe Called Red, July Talk, The Arkells, and Walk off the Earth in a stunning fusion performance with The Red Robe Native Drummers. This past season, he was thrilled to be asked to assist the director on CBC’s Battle of the Blades.

Performance Background

Dave is a graduate of The Ryerson Theatre School and began his career in live theatre. He has performed on major North American Stages from coast to coast, internationally throughout Europe and Japan, toured with the National Arts Centre, sung with opera companies, cruised oceans, and spent a lovely two years at the Princess of Wales with the original Disney “Beauty and the Beast” Company in his native Toronto.

Theatre Direction and Choreography, Canada and UK

In Toronto, Dave was proud to direct the Dora Nominated revival of CATS! which played to sold out houses and critical acclaim at the Panasonic Theatre as part of Mirvish’s 25th anniversary season. He also directed the 100th Anniversary Spectacular for Toronto’s Landmark Elgin and Wintergarden Theatres. UK adventures include “A Round Heeled Woman” starring Sharon Gless. (Cagney and Lacey, Queer as Folk) on London’s West End. Dave has directed for Drayton Entertainment, Theatre Aquarius, Theatre Muskoka, The Orillia Opera House, The Elgin Wintergarden, The Sudbury Theatre Centre, Tribal Productions, The Stirling Festival Theatre, and many more.

American Work and Awards

Direction of 42nd Street, The All Night Strut, On The Town, The Andrew’s Brothers, The World Goes Round, and the choreography of My Fair Lady, Working, cult classics Reefer Madness, and Grey Gardens, and as well, the premiere of ‘Bombshells the Musical’ at Actors’ Playhouse in Coral Gables. He has twice directed for Oakland University’s Theatre Department including the North American premiere of Brenda Bly, Teen Detective, and the always infectious Legally Blond. His US award nominations are a Broadway World – Best Choreographer Award, and also a Carbonell award nomination for best choreography on The All Night Strut, a show which he also directed.

In 2006 Dave was nominated for The Governor General’s Award for excellence in direction. He was founding Artistic Director of both the Orillia Opera House, and The Gravenhurst Opera House.
